HELP! WORD HAS DISCONFIGURED MY SYMBOLS!

A

arielaf

This might seem like a silly problem but suddenly, when I was to
create a bulleted list with the normal black circle it inserts a white
square instead... I have tried going to the Bullets and Numbering
menu and the same thing happens when I do it from there. All the
other ones work, just not the black circle. Same when I create a
shortcut key for symbols. I type the shortcut, and what I get instead
is a white square, which I guess is word's version of "error." Can
someone tell me how this happened, and more importantly, how the hell
I can reset it so it works normally without having to uninstall and
reinstall my word?????????? I have WORD 2004 FOR MAC, by the way...

Thanks!

Well, we'd be more likely to help if you didn't run in here SHOUTING AT US!!

You must be new to the Mac :) Uninstalling and re-installing rarely fixes
anything on the Mac, because the bits that get damaged are your preference
files, which are not part of the software, and are not replaced by a
reinstall. But if you jerk the application out and replace it, you can
corrupt you preferences and make your problems worse! So don't do that.

The "Bullets" button remembers the last bullet format used in the document,
or in your Normal template if no bullets have been used in the document.

If you don't like the format it gives you, simply go into the Format>Bullets
and Numbering... Dialog and change it to your heart's content.

Then apply your new format to some text, and that's the format you will get
every time you click the button unless you or another author on the document
change it.

If you would like the process to be a bit more reliable, learn to use Styles
for your formatting. If you configure the "List Bullet..." series of styles
to your taste, check Add to Template, then Save All, you will have a
selection of different bullets formats available whenever you need them.

The changes you make to a style are saved in the local document only, unless
you click Add to Template. If you do, the styles in the document are saved
to the template (usually, the Normal template).

Cheers
