Search the web for "Booklet Printing" in Word. One place you will find it
is http://www.word.mvps.org

The instructions are quite complex. Do NOT use the solution that talks
about "Macros", the macros required cannot be run on a Mac. Use the manual
method.

Hope this helps

You would probably be better off getting hold of CocoaBooklet (freeware)
which handles booklet creation quite nicely. There is also a shareware
application called BookLightning from Metaobjects that does the same thing,
and is a little better at it than CocoaBooklet. Both apps require that you
first convert the Word document to a PDF,

What a shame... This could be so easy...

You select a custom page size in Page Setup. Then, when you go to print the
document, you can select a 2-Up layout that will print then side by side.
Assuming your printer does a good job printing front and back, the only
remaining issue is how to order the pages to make things come out right.
Interior side would have P2 and P3. Exterior side would have P4 and P1 (left
to right). I¹m sure you would have to play with margins a bit, but that¹s
the basic approach that should work if I understand you right.

Hi Bill:

You are Sooooo right... I cannot understand why we did not get this
mechanism YEARS ago.

The main problem is in getting the pages to collate in booklet order so that
they print in the correct positions.

People who really know what they are doing use Linked Text Boxes to do this,
but it¹s not a technique I would advertise to a new user in a hurry and in
desperation :)

Cheers

Thanks.

I haven't tried to print anything in booklet form for a while now, but it
used to be hard to figure out even in Quark. There was no setting for folio
layouts.

I wouldn't want to try linked text boxes myself probably. Luckily, I have
very little need these days.

Best,

Starting to sound like an InDesign user now. Careful John...

{Giggle} Word has had linked Frames and Linked Text Boxes for years. But
you are quite right: it's a very "don't try this at home" Desktop Publishing
feature, and if you do not already know how to use them, it would take a
week to get the first attempt to work.

After that, linked text boxes enables you to use Word to do pretty much
anything QuarkExpress will do. It won't be as pretty, but you will get the
job done, and in some cases, complex layouts are faster to produce in Word.

On the other hand, you could set up a series of templates in 4, 8, 12, 16,
20... page increments, with block text and columns. That would be quite a
few templates, though.

It would be nice if the Mac BU would just create a Booklet Wizard.

Hi Gene:

Their last missive on the subject was an exhortation to one of us to produce
one FOR them that they could then host on their site.

For reasons that escape me, their interest waned when one of us suggested
that this might cost money :)

Cheers
