Here are the steps, but I must forewarn you that this could be a very
time-consuming process:
1. Launch Microsoft Project Professional and log into Project Server
2. Open a new blank project
3. Click Tools - Build Team from Enterprise
4. Select all resources in the Enterprise Resource Pool and click the Add
button
5. Click the OK button
6. Apply the Resource Sheet view
7. Insert EVERY custom enterprise resource field and outline code into the
Resource Sheet view
All right, so far so good, but you are not done yet. Now comes the hard
part. You must create one local resource field and outline code for EVERY
enterprise resource field and outline code in the Enterprise Global.
Because you can see all of the custom enterprise resource fields and outline
codes in the Resourc Sheet view, you can see what you need to duplicate with
local fields and outline codes. Do so by clicking Tools - Customize -
Fields. When you rename each custom field or outline code, type the word
"Local" and then add text to the name so that it matches the corresponding
enterprise resource field or outline code. For example, to create a local
outline that matches the RBS outline code field, I would name the local
outline code "Local RBS."
To quickly create each custom field and outline code, you can import the
structure of the enterprise version of the same. For example, for fields,
you can import custom formulas, value lists, and graphical indicators. For
outline codes, you can import the Code Mask and Lookup Table information for
each. I want to emphasize that you MUST create one local resource field and
outline code for every enterprise resource field and outline code.
After you have done so, insert the each local resource field or outline code
to the right or left of its corresponding enterprise resource field or
outline code in the Resource Sheet view. Then select the column header for
one of the enterprise fields/outline codes, click the Copy button, select
the first cell of the corresponding local field, and click Paste. Repeat
this process for every set of local/enterprise fields and outline codes.
After you have completed this lengthy operation, you have successfully
backed up your Enterprise Resource Pool and should then save the file as an
..mpp file.
Please understand that steps #1-7 above will not back up the pool. You must
complete the rest of the steps I have detailed before you have actually
backed up the pool. Hope this helps.
