here we go again

here we go again. Every time I select my personal calendar, outlook closes.
Once, it gave me the following error. Otherwise I do not get errors.
Any Ideas?
It was working perfectly when I left yesterday.

Sounds like it could be a corrupted view. Have you tried starting Outlook
with the /cleanviews command line switch? (Note: This will delete all
custom views and reset the built-in ones back to their default
configuration.)

J

jojo

no, I have not. How does one do that?
It just may be the view, as when I attempt to open it in a separate window,
I get a flash of it before closing. If I go to task bar, I can see my 7 days
of calendar items.

Please tell my how to open outlook as you have said to reset it.

Thanks,
jojo

Have your tried using the "Detect and repair" feature under the help
menu? If it's an Outlook problem this may help. If it's a .PST file
issue, try running the inbox repair tool.

I have run the inbox repair tool.

The detect and repair just confounds me. Whenever I run it, it asks for my
office disk. IO insert
it does and installation then requires a reboot. then nothing.
If I select it again, it goes through the whole process again.

What version of Outlook are you running? Might as well tell me the last
Microsoft Office Service Pack you have applied as well.

J

jojo

Outlook 2000 (Microsoft Office) w/ exchange server.
not sure about any service packs.

Windows 98

I use outlook express for "outside" email and newsgroups.
Outlook 2000 is and "in-house" system only connected to the server via
exchange.
The server has not access to the internet.

I have run spyware and virus protection...spyware found some low lever
lookers, but nothing malicious.

Thanks for your time!!

Hi,
I have done all of the steps, in order.
I do not get any error messages when it shuts down, but unfortunately,
it still shuts down.
;-(
I appreciate your patients, what can I try now?

Thanks,

I'm out of ideas as that troubleshooting link I gave solves about 99.9%.
Does it still bomb starting Outlook in safe mode? (start > run >
outlook.exe /safe > ok button)

J

jojo

yes, it opens fine, but as soon as I select "calendar" it syncs and closes.
By the way.....
If I try to open calendar in another window, (right click on calendar on the
toolbar) outlook does not close, but simply flashes as it tries to open
calendar in another window...does that tell us anything?

Thanks,

Yeah... something funky with the calendar, view, or hidden folder(s)
responsible for reminders or freebusy info. If this is an Exchange mailbox,
I would just export the mailbox, delete it, and create a new one.

If working with a PST, create a new PST file and switch to as the default
delivery location. From there start copying data from the old PST to the
new.
