hidden counter

After hidding my counter in accordance with

229900 - HOW TO: FP2002: Insert an Invisible Hit Counter

Problem: When I check the notepad to see how many hits I
have, it reads 0 and will not increment.

I redid it setting it at 500. I read the 500 ut again it
would not increment but stayed at 500.

Suggestions please
