Hidden Tables Closing Up

In Word 2003, we are trying to hide some tables. When we
do, if the tables are small, they close up the space
between the unhidden tables as they are supposed to.
However, if there are more than 8 or so rows in a hidden
table and they are marked to keep everything together,
then there is a page break occuring instead of the
unhidden text closing up. Can someone help, please?
