Hide and Protect Cells/Columns in Resource Sheet

I am working in Project 2003 Resource Sheet and have entered Standard Rates
for the resources and would like to hide these rates. (Similar to how you
would use Custom format to hide cell contents in Excel). Can this be done in
Project? I know you can hide a column but anyone can redisplay a hidden
column. Is there a way to hide and protect the rates so that other users
cannot see them?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Trevor
Thanks for your response; however, deleting would not work in this instance
because the file will be on a shared drive for other users to access and the
information needs to be in the file for calculation/reporting purposes.

There are only 2 things you can do:
1) disguise the rate by including overheads and using bands so no one can
differentiate between one resource's pay and another. This is a common
technique.
2) Use VBA to import the rates from a protected Excel spreadsheet in a
secured folder. once cost reports have been printed, delete rates again or
close without saving.

As Rod replied, you can copy them in when you need them (easy to just copy
the column to and from an excel sheet manually to see how this works)

But, if the information is in the file, then anyone who can read the file
can find the rates. Project does not offer any field level protection.
