Hide enterprise resource cost information

averied

Hi, in our company, I've filled up the enterprise resource pool synchronizing
with Active Directory...

Now we have some project leaders and the financial director... So I see
when I enter the cost of a resource, project leaders can see this
information, but they shouldn't, this information must only be accessible to
the financial director...

How can I Hide the resource cost information to project leaders??

Thanks...

Unfortunately what you want to do is not possible in Project, a user using
Project has the ability to see all information regarding a resource.

What we did for one of our client was to create a table in project server
database? Performed all actuals, budget and cost calculation at the backend
and provided dashboard report to financial director. The table we used had
rate information of resource linked with resource table with their unique ID.

Thanks

Use Category permissions to allow/deny access to resource information. Be
aware that project views are controlled by categories, so these should also
be configured as required to prevent unauthorised access to data.

I am certainly not an expert in that area, but I think that permission-based
solution has obvious drawbacks as limiting the resource access limit all
access to all the data of that resource, not only to the cost.
Worse thing however is that the financial data will be visible to everyone
having access to Data Analysis views, as most of the important cubes contain
the cost data and it does not take much time for someone without credential
to find it out.
Of course, one could limit access to Data Analysis to very carefully
selected people, but from my own perspective that would be a big loss (as
Data Analysis is IMHO the most powerful tool provided by OPS and all PJMs and
team leaders should use it to really understand what happens with their teams
and projects).

FOr these very reasons I personally seriously think about implementing in my
organization the solution similar to one Gaurav sugested.

But obviously it would be great to have the out of the box... It seems so
common a scenario...

Just be aware that accessing Project Server 2007 Draft, Published and Archive
database is not supported by Microsoft.

You would also have difficulty if you ever had to address these tables via
the PSI, or restore projects from archive.
