hide highlight formatting when printing

Is there a way to highlight text so it is visible when viewing the document
on your computer but not have the highlighting show up when printed?

My guess is that my request below is not possible. Alternatively, I guess
I will have to get by using the text effects (marching red ants, las vegas
lights, etc).

Hi JT

You could achieve almost the same effect using a character style (say,
char_highlight) with a background shading. Before printing you would need to
replace your char_highlight style with, say, char_hidehighlight which
doesn't have the shading), and afterwards swap back - Find > Replace will do
this, but you'd probably want to set up a macro.

There is a trick to setting up the shaded character style - apply the
shading (Format > Borders and Shading) to some selected text, then create a
new character style with the text still selected.

Thanks. That's a great suggestion and I'll use it in the future. However
I need something more automatic right now. I maintain a price book that is
used by our sales force (not all of whom could handle styles). I want web
hyperlinks to be easily visible on screen but transparent when printed. I
would prefer highlighting but text effects will get me by. Too bad we
can't extend the text effects with plug-ins (maybe you can with 2003 but
I'm using 2002).
