hide index field code

Hello and please help!
I am trying to make an index for a ca. 300 page document. I made a
concordance file, applied it to the document, and created an index.
But, I was unable to hide the field codes - I could not get them to
disappear. They are not present in "print preview" view, but they are
present otherwise. And, they were incuded in the document length. So,
the pagination is off on the final, printed document. Does anyone have
any tips for this?

I am using Word x

thanks,

Jill

Hi Jill:

By now, you have probably discovered that a concordance file is a very slow
way to make a poor index :)

I always suggest manually tagging the entries. It "seems" to take longer,
but by the time you have debugged the concordance and removed all the
redundant tags from the document, it's actually faster to manually tag the
text in the first place :)

This may help:
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/CreateIndex.htm

(That page may not be visible in Safari, hit "Refresh until it appears or
use a different browser)

Cheers

Thanks - that worked.

Jill
