Is there any way to hide the status bar that runs along the bottom of
the main window? In many programs, I can go to View > Status Bar to
toggle it on and off.

If you're seeing the 10 minute countdown then you can go to Tools -->
Schedules and disable the Send & Receive All schedule. It is not used
for Exchange accounts.

If you want to not see the status as your Exchange account gets updated
then you can go to Window menu --> Progress and open the Progress
window. While this window is open the status bar in the lower right is
hidden. You can then hide the Progress window behind your main window.

Hope this helps!

Thanks William! I had to reinstall on another computer and found that (just as you described) entourage was still checking the exchange server, even though there was no schedule set to check it. Good to know about the progress window too. thanks again for clearing that up for me.
