Hide styles

In a specific template users should not be able to apply the default styles
to the text. I would like to hide the default styles so that only custom
styles are visible.

I think it can be done in Word XP, but I'm on Word 2000 so I think that I
have to use VBA to create a solution.

Can it be done?
