Hiding an image while working in powerpoint

I have a large image that fades in on a slide, but when working on the
slide, the image makes viewing difficult.

Is there a good way to hide the image while working on the slide content?

What version of PowerPoint? The answer defers depending on version.

If you are using 2007 then use the layer manager.

If you are using 2000 thru 2003 then use PPTools layer tool.
