Hiding cells in excel, get error: Cannot shift objects off sheet

Trying to hide cells (not manually but with the bars on the top of the
worksheet). When I go to hide the cells, I get an error message: cannot shift
object off sheet.
Tried pasting into a new worksheet, doesn't work
