Hiding Detail

Is there a way to create an MSProject file which will show
detail down to the third level of the WBS, but not be able
to drill down to the lower detail tasks.

Yeah, I know. Dumb, but we think the customer wants the
Project file updated monthly and the PM does not want to
air all the dirty laundry.

Thanks, I hope.

Hello jlb,

Not to the best of my knowledge. You can show only
levels 1-3 (click the Show button in the formatting
toolbar), but users who will be still able to display all
tasks. It will also be fairly obvious by looking at the
task ID numbers that data is missing.

You may also wish to turn off the display of the outline
symbols next to the task names to make it less obvious
Tools --> Options, View tab -- disable Show Outline
symbol.

Hope this helps and perhaps someone else has a better
answer.

AFAIK, no. Send them a detailed report, which includes copious
commentary and summaries by the Project Team, including the Gantt chart
down to an appropriate level of datail. All this in a PDF "document"
with bookmarks, thumbnails, etc. Find a way to give customer the
"information and knowledge" they really want, not necessarily the "data"
they are saying they want. The PM and the customer will have to
compromise.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

If you can open the file you can see everything that is in the file.
