Hiding standard menu in one db hides it for all

I have inherited an Access db that hides the menu bar. It has a small custom
menu bar of its own, and this is seen by users only when in the db. About 30
people regularly use this db.

For one user only, when she opens any other db in Access, or creates a new
Access db, after using this inherited db, the menu bar remains hidden.

Our tech department has had to re-install Access on her desktop twice now,
and was not able to correct this problem any other way. Does anyone else
have a less dramatic solution?

This sounds like the sort of problem we used to have to deal with in the pre
Access 97 days.
Check the Tools menu and ensure that when this user exits this database, the
default .mdw file is set to System.mdw
It sounds like they are still stuck in the .mdw that controls that database.

It sure does, doesn't it? Is there another way to find out where the default
..mdw is besides typing ?DBEngine.SystemDB into the immediate window --
because that always returns "Documents and Settings\<username>\Application
Data\Microsoft\Access\system.mdw", which is not where it used to be in 97
days, in "C:\program files\microsoft..." somewhere.
You mentioned the Tools menu item, but I don't see it there.

If you delete the personalised menu's from the user section
of the registry, the default values are restored.

Hkey Current User\software\microsoft\office\ n \Access\Settings.

There don't appear to be any personalized menus in the registry area
indicated, or anything else unexpected. The command
"Application.ComandBars.MenuBar.Visible = False" is used to hide the default
menu bar, and the same command, typed into the VB immediate window will
restore the default menu bar. Two troubles with that: 1) there are only two
of us who know how to do that, and half an office full of people with no menu
bars, and 2) the menu-less condition returns the minute any Access database
is closed and re-opened, even the one where the menu bar was restored using
the command above. We are really stumped on this one!

If you do NOT have something in

Hkey Current User\software\microsoft\office\12\Access\Settings

(0r 11 or whatever version), then you have a permissions problem
in the registry.

The user must be able to set and clear user settings.
