hiding text in a table of contents

Nelson

I'm using Word 2007 and have set up headings, level 1, 2 & 3 with numbering.
For the level 3 headings, I would like the first sentence after the number to
display in the table of contents, and all text that follows to not be
displayed. I assume that there is a field setting I can enter in the heading
3 entries in the body of the text that will do this, but I'm not sure what it
is.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can insert a style separator in the paragraph and then apply a
different, non-heading, style to the text that should not be included in the
TOC.

Thank you Stefan.
Would the new style have the outline level set to Body Text, or is there
something else I need to do to the style?

Hi Stefan, how do I insert a style separator? Is it possible to have the same
paragraph with different styles?

If you are using Word 2007, you can add the Style Separator command to the
Quick Access Toolbar: Right-click the QAT, and choose Customize from the
context menu. For "Choose commands from," choose "Commands Not in the
Ribbon." Locate Style Separator in the list and click the Add button. When
you are done, click OK.
