highlight time on gantt chart

Is there any way to highlight time (eg weeks) on a gantt chart so I can
clearly show term dates and holidays of my education client (these are not
non-working times as far as the project is concerned!).

The only way I can see is to insert a graphic which is close to useless as
it is not bound to the time in terms of size and position when the programme
is viewed/printed at different "scales"

Any suggestions please?

Hello,
While it's not non working time, you could create a fake calendar Tools /
Change working time / New with all these days set as "Non working".
Then you display this calendar on your Gantt Chart :
Format / Timescale / Non Working time / Calendar : the fake one
