Highlighting in Word

Hi all,
So, when I do ctlF and do a search for certain words in a document, then
click "highlight all" - it highlights everything. But as soon as I type or
click out of the "find" function the highlighting goes away. How do I get the
highlighting to stay put for all the words through out the document like it
used to in Word 2003? Thanks!

The "highlight all" is only a "reading highlight" -- a temporary view
to let you see where all the occurrences are, but not to let you do
anything with them. Since this isn't usually what I'm interested in, I
rarely use it.

Use the Replace function (Ctrl+H) instead of Find, and click the More
button to expand the dialog. After entering the target words in the
Find What box, put the cursor in the Replace With box and enter the
code ^& which means "replace with the found item". Click the Format
button and choose Highlight from the menu. Then click the Replace All
button. The occurrences will all be highlighted permanently (or until
you deliberately remove the highlight).

You can actually perform operations on the selected text if you use "Find
in" instead of "Reading Highlight." When clicking out of the dialog, be
careful to select the title bar of the window to return focus to the
document without deselecting the selected text. You can then, say, press
Ctrl+I to make all the slected text italic, apply a style, or whatever.
