Highlighting Parts of Long Documents

I cannot highlight parts of long documents for copying,
etc., MS Office Standard, Office 95. When I drag the
cursor past the bottom of the page, it automatically
highlights everything to the end of the document. How can
I control the highlighting function to slow it down, or
prevent this from happening so that I can, for example,
highlight pages 9 to 12 of a fifty page document for
copying or deletion? Thanks!

One way is to use the keyboard to select text instead of the mouse.
Click once at the beginning of the selection area. Then hold down the
Shift key while you press the PageDown and/or arrow keys to select text.

Place cursor at desired beginning, scroll to down to location of desired
end, press Shift key, Click cursor on end of selection.
