Highlighting Word and Typing Over no Longer Works

I can't highlight a word and simply type another word
over it anymore. It simply puts the new word in front of
the other one I want to get rid of. It has nothing to do
with the Insert key. Does anyone know how to resolve
this problem? I must have hit some key to cause this,
but I don't know what it is. Please email me with any
info you might have. Thanks for your help!

Tools, Options, Edit and check the Typing replaces Selection option.

Tools>Options>Edit. In the Editing options make sure
Typing replaces selection is checked.
