Highlighting work periods

I am quite new to Project (was more involved with P3/P3e). The project I am
on at present will be having a shutdown for a week, twice in the year. In P3
it is easy to highlight the area required by using a "curtain". I have
sussed that you can do it in Project as well, by using the drawing toolbar,
but the default is only for 40cm. I have a Project with almost 4000
activities on it and I want to highlight the whole plan to show the shutdown
period. Is there a work around to this. I tried changing the working time
colours, but it doesn't seem to offer you the change possibility.
Can anyone help?

Jan,

Thanks for that. I know I can format the non-working time as required, but
in actual fact what I want to show on the plan is the period of the shutdown,
but we will still be working as normal. It's actually the client that is
having the shutdown, but we have critical works to be done in that time and I
want to highlight the period that the "shutdown" covers.

Hi,

Still, make a new calendar (Tools, Change Working time, new) that has the
shutdown as nonworking time; don't use it for scheduling only as indicated
in my first post.

Jan,

Thanks for that, I see now what you were meaning to do. It's not like P3e,
but it will do for now.
