hilite/overwrite not working

In the past few days my hilite/overwrite stopped working. In other
words, if I hilite some text and then type another letter, instead of
overwriting the hilited text with the new letter, it appends this new
letter to the beginning of the hilited text. This is very wierd
behavior and not consitent with the way any other text entry or editing
fields work. Does anyone know what caused this and how to fix it?

Thanks,
Dave

Press the Ins[ert] key on your keyboard. It's a toggle, and
pressing it will change it from the behavior you describe to the
behavior you desire. ;)

Hope this helps.

I have tried this. It doesn't work. It still acts funny. If I press
the Insert key to put it in overwrite mode and then select multiple
characters to overwrite and type another character, only the first
character is overwritten, not all of the previously selected characters.

Gosh, Dave, the only other thing I could suggest would be to verify
that in "Tools, Options, Edit"...the box that says "Typing replaces
selection" is still checkmarked.

Best of luck with this!

That is it! Thanks Karen. I don't have any clue how my settings got
changed but that was the problem.

Thanks from me, also, Karen. I should have mentioned that when
I first replied. Live & learn, eh? ;)
