I work for Microsoft in the Hardware group that makes Microsof Keyboards. I
do not work for Office. I hope I can help you, though, since I have to test
different keyboard layouts from time to time.

Windows XP has several keyboard layouts for Hindi that can be used by
Office. These are:
Gujarati
Hindi Traditional
Kannada
Malayalam
Marathi
Punjabi
Tamil
Telugu

To enable them on the US version of Windows XP, go to Control panel,
Regional and Language Options. Go to the Languages tab and make sure that
the Supplemental Language Support box is checked. This installs support for
Hindi and other languages. If it is not checked, check it and click Apply
and you may be asked to reboot but I found that I didn't really have to in
order to continue.

After clicking Apply on the Languages tab, now click on Details...

In the Settings Tab, click on the Add...button in order to add a language
for input. In this dialog, click on the Input Language dropdown and select
Hindi. Then you may select one of the above layouts. Click OK, then Apply.

Now click Language Bar in the settings tab. Select how you want the
language bar to be displayed. Close all the control panel dialogs after
applying that change.

Now when you are in an Office application, you should be able to select your
keyboard layout from the Language Bar and input text in Hindi.

If you want to see what each of these layouts look like, download the Visual
Keyboard from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads (using the search term
"Visual Keyboard). You will have to switch the tool to use a font that has
Hindi characters in it, such as Arial Unicode MS.

Hope this helps.
