History.IE5 folder in History Panel

When I click on the History Icon in Windows XP the folder opens with
History.IE5 as the header, but not history. I have checked the View Folder
and selected History and that is what pops up. I have selected 3 days
history under Internet options. I have removed Internet Explorer and
reinstalled it. I have version IE 6.0.2900. I have done a Go Back, and
system repair. At first this was just a problem on one laptop and now it is
on both. I have Windows XP Home on one and Windows XP Professional on the
other. After going through all these gyrations I can no longer connect to
the Internet with my laptop I used a the office. I get connected to the
network no problem, but can't get on the Internet when I worked fine before.
I use Earthlink Total Express and they tried to help but now say it is
Microsoft problem.

Sorry, I posted it in the wrong place. I thought I was posting on a general
Microsoft group discussion.
