Hit Counter not counting

Hi,
I'm new to the world of the web, so I'm sure I'm missing a simple step
somewhere. Using Frontpage 2003, I just put a hit counter on my site.
However, it simply sits on the number "1". I called my ISP, and they said the
Frontpage extensions were enabled. What should I be looking for next?

Hello,

Have you tried closing and opening the browser again? It could be that the
counter is only tracking unique hits.

I put the counter on yesterday, and since then I have turned my computer off
a couple times. What is a unique hit?

The most common issues for the hit counter:
1. Front Page Extensions not installed or corrupted
2. Write permissions for the hit counter file
3. Not publishing via the FPSE (http: protocal), which causes FPSE
corruption

To further delve into my problem:
By viewing my Reports in Frontpage, then selecting Problems, then Component
Errors, I get this message: Hit Counter component that will not function
properly until you publish your FrontPage Web to a server.
Everything else works on my website. As I understand it, I publish by
editing my webpages contained on my server at work, then I FTP publish to a
remote site(the ISP?) and then my site is accessible on the web.
So what gives with the Hit Counter?

You have to publish via FP's http mode to the live/remote server, you can not use FTP and have any
FP webbot run-time component work.

It's the FTP thing- FTP has a habit of breaking the FPSE, broken means no
hit counter or other FPSE dependant functionality.

Contact the host and have them repair the FPSE, and then publish your site
via the FPSE (http://www.site.com)

that FrontPage needs to publish to a server for the counter to work. My

The FP server extensions must be installed and configured on the host
server, in order to use FP components such as the hit counter.

And, you must http publish (not ftp) to the remote server with FP
extensions.

For an FPSE component to work, your site must be published using the FPSE,
and if you FTP the page it will not work and the FPSE will most likely need
to be reintalled.

Hi CMF
this site has helped me a couple of times so I'm trying to give back a
little something, as I have had this exact same problem, I'll try to
explain to you exactly how to fix it.
When FP pubolishes a web site, it doesn't copy hit counts from the local web
site
to the remove site. there fore, to reset the hit counter on the REMOTE web
site,
you must OPEN the REMOTE site in FP and reset the counter yourself.
there is a place near the upper right hand corner of the screen that will
let you
open your remote site directly into FP.
After resetting the counter to a new number, SAVE the page, then clear the
RESET counter check box and save it again, this will keep FP from resetting
the counter
ever time you save the page or open it.
To reset the counter, left click on the counter and choose properties just
the
way you did to set it in the first place. but again make sure you are in the
REMOTE web site, not the local one.
