"Hole" on word Displayed on the screen

From time to time, on two different XP machines, I get
a "hole" in a screen dispaly of a Word 2002 doc. The
last screen I looked at prior shows through this Hole.
The Hole starts about 3 inces in on my display and is
about 4.5 inches wide, maybe 3 or 4 print lines deep.

As I scroll the doc up and down the Hole stays in the
same fixed position on my display. If I scroll sideways
the Hole stays in a fixed position on the Display.

The Hole always satarts when I am in Word, but then is
presnet in all apps until I reboot.

What is the cause, how do I fix it?
