Home and Office 2007 installation woes

U

unhappy user

I purchased this piece of junk from a 3rd party vendor and installed it on
three computers, 2 already running Office 2003. Those 2 kept requesting the
original instllation CD from Office 2003; then the "Wizard" couldn't find the
CAB files it was needing. Three hours and 4 phone calls to MS later it was
solved.

Now the first computer I installed O2007 on has inexplicably reverted to the
trial version, now expired, with the dreaded OEM license. And it seems to
think, at the same time, that I've already used up my three installs from
MS2007 which I purchased (it comes with three installs), even though it
doesn't think there is a Home and Office already installed.

2 hours and 6 (yes, SIX) calls to MS later, and I am writing this email
because my effing Office suite won't work.

And, of couse, the only reason I bought the goddamn Office 2007 suite at all
is because MS introduced the docx extension, thereby forcing me to buy their
upgraded junk software that comes complete with incomprehensible licensing
agreements and tech support, it turns out, I have to pay for.

Thanks for wrecking my day MS. And then offering to charge me to fix it.

Actually, Microsoft doesn't force anyone to use their new Open Office XML
file formats. The choice is yours. Previous versions of Office are still
supported and widely used.

A clean install of Office (that means first uninstalling your previous
version of Office) is often the most successful way to install the software.
Uninstalling your previous version of Office will not affect your documents,
spreadsheets, presentations, etc.

If I were you I would start again. Completely uninstall Office from your
computer, restart your computer, and then install whichever version of
Office you wish to use.

If you want to stick with Office 2003 there are several ways to deal with
files you receive in Office Open XML (i.e., .docx, .xlsx and .pptx). The
easiest is to ask the sender to save the file in Office 97--2003 format
before sending it to you. Or you can download free file viewers from
Microsoft.

OEM-licensed software is intended for system builders. Microsoft anticipates
that the system builder will support the product, therefore Microsoft does
not provide support for OEM products, and in exchange the system builder
pays much less than the price of a retail copy of the software. That's the
reason Microsoft is charging you for support: You bought a product that does
not come with support from Microsoft.

In edition any Trial must be uninstalled, the sys rebooted, prior to
installing from cd
