My comment would be if you want to create/maintain a website, then use the
Microsoft product that is specifically meant for that - FrontPage. I know
it's not what you wanted to hear but Publisher was meant for desktop
publishing work. Just because a butter knife can be used as a screwdriver
doesn't mean that you can expect a tableware manufacturer to make a Phillips
head butter knife.

I have so far used every single version of Publisher to create my web site.
It seems that the home page file size continues to be a problem which puts
my home page at a disadvantage when it comes to the amount of time it takes
for the visitor to see the entire page. When is Microsoft going to come up
with a version that creates home pages that are smaller/normal in size? Is
this in the works yet for the next version? I really don't want to go
looking elsewhere for another web publishing program but it seems that even
very simple web sites, when created in Publisher, have a huge size home
page. Please comment.

Hi Stevan,

I wouldn't hold my breath or even hope that MS will take a different
direction with the next version of Publisher, but who knows. I know David
Bartosik is working hard to get MS to improve the next version. I believe
that it was through his efforts that MS issued the patch for 2003 that
reduces the size of the images.

Perhaps for the short term, go back to Publisher 2000 which produces
cleaner, more basic HTML, smaller and faster loading files with cross
browser support if you don't want to switch to different software. And if
your site is getting, or will become larger and more sophisticated, then
perhaps it is time to switch.

It's a pity Microsoft does not extent the ease of use of Pub to
Frontpage. Using Frontpage is a step back. Why should web publishing be
harder to implement than desktop publishing, I wonder. Is it a lack of
viable competition in the market place?
