HOME PAGE NOT UPLOADING TO WEB WITH FTP

Can anyone help? please accept that I have done all the basics and have now
aborted using Publisher to publish to the web – like many of the community it
invariable just hangs and does nothing – I down loaded a program called
‘Website Publisher’ – its easy to use and did transmit my site to my host by
FTP (more in a moment) - my problem is the home page – I go through
Publisher to publish the site to another folder on my computer – in the
process I rename my home page to index.html (my host needs to end in html) –
I have a folder called index_files and a separate index (html) file – as you
know in the index_files holds all the bits of the pages plus all the .html
pages excluding the home page (index.html) – the index.html works fine though
– but will not upload to the web – usually when I transmit index_files all I
get is the home page with no pictures and no other pages (although they are
there) – I did fiddle by copying another page in the files and renamed it
index.html which when uploaded worked but didn’t work like a home page – so I
am as far as I can go – can anyone help – I think all the bits are place so
can anyone help?

Part of your problem is probably the automated features of 'Website
Publisher' that supposedly only uploads those files and folder that have
been changed since you last uploaded. So the first thing you need to do is
delete all the Publisher generated HTML files and folder off your site. If
you continue to have problems using 'website publisher' then you might want
to figure out how to turn off the automatic features.

Then when you "Publish to the Web" and get the Save In dialog, choose to
publish to a folder on your hard drive where you can find it. Perhaps call
it "websiteHTML" to keep things clear later. Then also under "file name"
choose "index.html"...don't go back into your "websiteHTML" folder and
rename the "index.htm" file later. All the subpages will use the same
extension that you choose when you name the index file, and you want
consistency.

Then assuming that you have cleaned out all the old Publisher HTML files and
folder from your site, you can upload the "index.html" file and the
"index_files" folder that you published to the "websiteHTML" folder, but not
the folder itself.

If you have further questions, please post to the subgroup

Thanks DavidF - I'm up and running - I cleared out html files from my host
then generated in seperate folder sitehtml - I then generated (same process)
index.html folder - I then dragged the index folder into the site folder -
(when looking in site folder now you see the index files folder but more
importantly there is the index html page along with the other pages) - I then
uploaded the site folder but both folders upload - site folder first and then
index folder which updates site folder transmissions - sounds a bit daft but
it works and I have already updated my site using the same process and no
problems.
Thanks again learned a lot over the past 2 weeks!!
