I have done a website using Publisher 2007. (www.myonlinesecretary.com.au)
When I used the "web page preview"in Publisher, all links work fine, ie home,
contact etc. After I published the files and it's on the web, if I select
"Home" from any page within the site, I get the following error:

Not Found
The requested URL /MOS.htm was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an
ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Apache/1.3.41 Server at myonlinesecretary.com.au Port 80

I have extra extra basic skills when it comes to publishing and would
appreciate your help.

Thankyou.

It is looking for " MOS.htm " your home page appears to be "
index.htm "
Reassign the navigation links or rename the home page to match existing
links.

When you Publish to the Web, save your home page as "index.htm". The files
that you have posted right now were generated by you saving your home page
as "MOS.htm". Delete the old files off the server and upload the new ones.

Also unless you want to store a backup copy of your Publisher file on your
host, the MOS Website.pub file is not necessary.

By the way, what do you mean you have "extra extra basic skills" <g>? Never
heard that expression....

Hi David

I am really confused. When I am in Publisher & I select "Publish to the
Web", I get a box asking for a file name. I typed in MOS. When I then look
at the folder which contains all the web files, I renamed the home page file
index (by right clicking & choosing rename), instead of MOS. So when I use
the FTP, I can see the home page is called index.htm. It all publishes to
the web just fine, but then I get the error message I mentioned earlier.

By "extra extra basic skills" means I haven't got a clue!!!

Thanks

Thanks Don

I did rename the homepage (after I selected "publish to the web" in
Publisher) to index.

You typed in MOS so all the other web files were named based on that. Type
in, or leave the default at index when you get the dialog after you Publish
to the Web. Don't rename files after you publish them.

Nice job !!!

I have one comment about the use of Justify text. It looks nice when the
text has the approximately same spaces between words.
From your Profile page I see:

Administration became my forte as I worked my way from
my first job as a data entry operator through to the state
manager’s personal assistant in a
multi-national insurance broking firm.

Line three is stretched and looks out of place. Might change some of the
words around to make it fit better.

On the Services page you used Left Justify. I like consistency.

This is not my area of expertise by any means, but I do judge the quality of
a product or service on how it is presented on a web site.

Good luck....

Hi Spike

Thanks so much for your help and comments. I think I have looked at the
pages so often, I've missed the "fine" detail. I appreciate you taking the
time to look it over for me. I've fixed up the justification, so hopefully
all will now be ok.

Hi,

In search of an answer to my own dilemma I stumbled upon this posting and
have a similar issue. I have set up my own site and have completed it,
previewed it and also performed the design checker and all looks good. When
I go to post the site as index.htm to my host server, I can view the home
page but all of the other pages are not able to be viewed and I get the
typical error when clicking on them that you would get if you entered the
wrong URL where there was no data for a website. My guess is there is a
linking issue, but I have no idea on how to go about solving the problem.
Any help on a fix for this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, JJ

Spike,

Took your recommendation and after I was able to get all the files over it
worked great. I can't thank you enough for your help. Now I just have to
get this business making some money so that I can get a better website and
pay someone else to do it for me. Thanks again and have a great weekend.

Thanks for posting back that you are up and running. It helps everyone to
know when things get fixed.

Good luck with your site.
