Horizontal Line across page in MS Word

MS Word automatically creates a heavy horizontal line called a "border line"
across the page after you type several shift-dashes (key to right of ")").
How do I delete this line? I can't select it for a delete. The
Format>Borders and Shading>Setting None does nothing to get rid of it.
