Horizontal lines

R

Richard Cavell

Version 11.1 of Microsoft Word for Mac, 2004.

1. My document contains horizontal lines that extend from the left page
margin to the right. I can grab them and move them up and down to a
small degree, but I can't get rid of them. How do I delete these lines
altogether?

2. How do I enter the 'pound' sign, as in the symbol for British currency?

If this duplicates please forgive me as there has apparently been a
server error... which may have been evident earlier. I tried to follow
the link from Elliott & got a "not found" error, so try this;

Click in the paragraph above the line, then Format>Borders & Shading,
click the None preset. If that doesn't do it try in the paragraph below
the line, as a border can be applied on any combination of the 4 sides
of a paragraph.

Hi Richard -

I tried the link Elliott supplied - just out of curiosity - but it
didn't work for me. Got a "Page not on Server" error. In the event the
same happens to you, this is what you are loking for:

The horizontal line is actually a paragraph border. To remove it, click
in the paragraph, then go to Format>Borders & Shading, click the Preset
Icon for None. When you OK out the border should be gone. The border
could be an attribute of *either* the para that appears above the line
or below it, so if one doesn't work try the other.

You need a better news reader Taz!
It's why I stuck in the hint for googling the group. I figgered not too
many newsreaders would deal with that many wrapped lines in that
never-ending url

And yes, that was the fix suggested by Daiya in that string of articles.
Rafael Montserrat came up with this solution to his own problem..

Thanks for your concern, but I was using IE 6.x/Google on a (dare I say
it?) PC at the time. I've been using Entourage on my personal system,
but am thinking about making a switch - Any suggestions?

Actually, I think Google *was* having some server problems this
morning... if you notice, my first reply posted some 2 hrs. later than
my second. There were also some other issues along the way, but, you're
right, the link was only partially active.

If you are forced to work on a PC (like at work) Outlook Express 6 works
nicely with newsgroups. That is what I use when at work (remember....work
is a FOUR LETTER WORD)!! Mac is only three. ;-)

Netnewswire works quite well http://ranchero.com/netnewswire/ and there is a
lite version that is free. Full featured demo gives 30 days to test drive
as well.

Good luck,
-Mark
