Horizontal Ruler disappears in Word

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel When adjusting first line indent settings on the horizontal ruler at the top of the page screen in Word, if I make one adjustment, the horizontal ruler disappears, despite the fact that I have unchecked "Autohide Rulers" in the general preferences window. This was not true in the '04 Microsoft Office Program for Mac. Most annoying . . . any fixes?
