Horizontal Scrolling

I've rather a large amount of data and as your scroll horizontilly
to read it, at some point it jumps making it almost impossible to
read.

Is there anyway to make it scroll smoothly? I suspect it's something
to with cell width. My data exceeds the 255 limit though, so I've just
let it use one cell with the text going over the cells to the right.

When you scroll horizontally or vertically, Excel always moves the
sheet so that the left (or bottom) edge is on a column (or row)
border. If you have wide columns, scrolling will cause the display to
"jump" from one column to the next. There is no ways to scroll or
position the worksheet so that the left-most column is only partially
visible. Excel will force the alignment so that the left-most column
is fully visible.

This "feature" is very annoying and should be configurable by the user. It
is very unnatural when there is no proper linear feedback between mouse
movement and action on screen. Yet another reason not to choose Microsoft
products.
