Hosting 2 web pages with IIS

B

Burger23

have created 2 webpages using FP2003--and I am self-hosting them using IIS.
The first web page, www.gradygroup.com, works great. I just transferred the
DNS of the second web page, www.gradysgrillhouse.com, to my web
server-actually, to the router's IP. I created a sub web for the new web
page, but I am stuck on how to configure it. Both wepages are now being sent
to the first webpage's index.htm. Advanced IP Properties in IIS have 2
entries: first, IP Adress is Default, Port 80 and Host Header name is empty.
I have the second as IP Addres Default, Port 80, and Host Header as
www.gradysgrillhouse.com.

I obviously am not sure about what I am doing! Any advice, or pointing me to
a Kb article would be welcomed. This also may very well be the wrong group to
post this in. I could not find a IIS link-so redirect me if necessary.

TIA
Chris

Chris,
Your best bet is not to point the second domain to a sub-web. Some
of the FrontPage features will break as a FrontPage expects a root web snce
you're at the root domain level. The host header is probably working
correctly since both properties are actually in the same server instance.
You need to create a brand-new virtual server in IIS and set up the host
header that way. You can also point the second virtual server to a brand-new
directory structure outside the inetpub\wwwroot so they don't interfere with
eachother.

Hope this help,s

My problem is that I can not figure how how to actually create a second web
site! The tree that I get has a folder called Web Sites followed by one web
site, called default web site in that folder. I can not determine how to add
another web site. From the Web Sites folder, I have tried right-clicking as
well as selecting File and Actions. I do not seem to have the option at this
level.

If I go down another level, I can right click on Default Web Site, then New
and I can create a new virtual directory-but only as a virtual directory on
the existing Default web site.

Thanks for replying- I am stuck here

What is the O/S version you are using? WinXP Pro with IIS 5.1 or Win2K Pro
with IIS 5 only supports one root web, which is the Default web. For
multiple root webs, you would need a server version of the O/S, such as
Windows 2000 or 2003.
