hosting a web site on my windows xp pro machine

Hi,

i would like to host my web site on my xp pro computer in my office.
can this be done? it will be a data base website for forums. i have
the templates but i just dont know how to set up the server side on
xp. anyone know how this is done?

i know my way around the pc but im no expert.

Websites need to be hosted by an Internet Service Provider.

You may want to look into BBSs, Bulletin Boards; they were popular back in
the eighties. I had the Bear Cavern for about five years in those good ol
days.

If your not an expert, or not even a beginner expert...don't do it. There's
lots to know about security and other junk. What server would you use
anyway?

Forget it and find a good host.

i still think it can be done i am turning the pc into a server. was
just interested if anyone knew exactly how to do it. ill do more
research and find out. and post it if i am successful.

I would think it would be cost prohibitive if you plan to become an Internet
Provider for one account.

It can be done. You'll need server software. Read your ISP's Terms of
Service first...many will NOT let you host.
At any rate this newgroup would not be the one to ask these questions in.

i just re-read your op...are you talking about an intrAnet?
if so, XP pro comes with IIS so you can try installinsg and running
that...you'll have limited connections though.
