Hosting Project 2003 Pro thru Citrix

Hello,

We've enabled Enterprise Features on the Project 2003 Server and published
Project Pro 2003 through a Citrix Terminal Server.

Using Project Web Access, when the Project Manager trys to update tasks he's
assigned an error message is displayed

"VBScript: MSFT Office PWA 2003"

"You need MSFT Project Pro 2002 or MSFT Project Pro 2003 in order to perform
this action"

The message goes on to imply that the account's permissions may be
insufficient. An administrator colleague of mine received the same message
(she had Project Pro 2002 installed locally).

The Project Manager has Pro 2002 installed locally; I would like anyone who
needs Project Pro 2003 to use the Citrix hosted application NOT a local
version. Am I going to have to install Project Pro locally to resolve this
issue? Is there a work around?

Johnnie:

The problem you're experiencing sounds like you're running the browser on
the local machine and Project Pro through Citrix. So, how do you propose
that these two talk to each other? You need to run both in the same session
or the updates don't work.

Indeed.....how do I propose to have them talk to each other?

I tried to open IE on the computer hosting Project Pro, this did not work.

I opened IE locally on my box (it had Project Pro 2003 installed) and it
worked.

Some what of a rhetorical question (I believe I've resolved my issue) I
guess it's not possible to re-direct a PWA session to the Project Pro
hosting Citrix server.

So, thanks for your time......jeeze Project has so MANY parts that need to
mesh together.

It's possible to use this through Citrix, but you need to have both the
Browser and Project open in the Citrix session. You simply need to decide
between a Remote Session (Citrix) or a Local Session (local computer). You
just can't have one running in one place and expect it to talk to another
application running in a different session on a different computer. This is
not rocket surgery.

Logged on to the Citrix Server through an ICA client and was able perform
the procedure. This was the published desktop - not published individual
application (either IE or Project Server).

The published desktop encompasses BOTH applications.

Agree, its not Rocket Science.....thanks for your time.

With Gary's advice and some elimination of possibilities here's the
resolution.....

Both IE (PWA) and Project Pro local - worked

Citrix Server published desktop both applications available on same
server - worked

IE (PWA) published application & Project Pro published application not on
same Citrix Server (server farm) - did not work

IE (PWA) published application & Project Pro published application on same
Citrix Server (server farm) - worked

We do not normally publish the desktop, and wouldn't recommend anyone do
this.

Thanks for your time & advice Gary.

Glad you got it. I've not worked with Citrix, but our approach using
Terminal Services is to lock that baby down good and tight!
