Hosting, static IP

M

Maureen

Can anyone recommend a hosting company that can provide a static IP address
for my domain and support FP extensions? Specifically I need to make sure I
can secure a folder and get records from a private folder.

I have called at least 10 companies and no one will give a static ip.

Thanks very much

Unless I'm misunderstanding something here, you don't need a "static" IP
to host your web with a hosting company.
The IP is assigned when your hosting account is created, and rarely if
ever is changed.
If it is ever changed it is totally transparent as far as your web and
visitors are concerned.

The only time you would need a "static" IP would be with your ISP (
Internet Service Provider ) if you
were trying to "self host" your web on your computer at home.

Steve, it is always good to have a static IP instead of a shared IP address, because you can then
access your site via it IP address directly if needed, which you can not do when hosted under a
shared IP address.

Actually, you can access your site via IP,even if it is under a shared
IP.
You would enter http://192.168.1.1/~yourusername/

You could pay more...but why would you?

You can get a static IP through our services. We do charge extra for
that. Please contact sales at hostingforabuck.com with your hosting

You have to create a quote, just to provide a person with a static IP address?

So why didn't you just indicate that...instead of say call for a quote...
