Hot Fixes

So, we got the hot fixes -- all of them for ps 2007 and pp 2007 -- and
applied them. There are overlapping articles and fixes.

We applied the PP2007 fix and it appears to have updated the project pro
correctly and the info shows the same file data as the KB article.

We thought we applied the hotfixes for the server side but we are still
getting problems. How do we check to see if the files in the documentation
match those on our system? We don't seem to find the same file names as the
KB on our system that has our server installed on.

PG,
SInce this question is mostly about Project Server, you might get a
better response if you post to our sister newsgroup,
microsoft.public.project.server. This newsgroup is dedicated to
questions/issues with the stand alone installation of Project.

Why did you get all the hotfixes? Why did you apply all of them?
Hotfixes are different from service packs in that they are only recommended
if you have encountered a specific problem. The hotfix has been developed to
solve that problem (typically to fix an issue at a large or important
microsoft customer) and they are not tested to the same level as a service
pack is. The documentation may also not be up to the same standards. Because
of this Microsoft does not recommend installing them except to correct a
specific condition. They are not typically supported by Microsoft either.

I'm sorry that I do not know how to figure out exactly what you have done. I
think my first step in untangling this would be to call microsoft support
and tell them what issue you are seeing and what you have done so far. I am
afraid that they may be unable to untangle it either so be prepared for a
suggestion that you back up your database and reinstall.

Sorry to bring the bad news. I hope you will have luck in finding a
solution.

Thanks. Why did we apply them? Because we experienced each of the problems.
And the Hotfixes are not bundled one to one with the KB articles -- instead
some hotfixes combine over several articles. Thus, in one hotfix it addressed
4 KB articles and we had one of the problems -- so you apply the fix.

You are right that the documentation for the hot fix was not all that great.
You find that some files are updated across fixes, some not and others
introduced.

We have placed a call to MS via the process we are required to follow for
govt but have not spoken to them yet. We are hoping to get some better help.
