Hot spots on a floor plan

P

Paul H

I have created a floor plan of a home with hot spots that link to pages for
some of the rooms. I'd like to color the rooms on the floor plan that have
hot spots. Is this possible? It would be terrific if the hot spot changed
color when the mouse was over it, but I'm sure that's too much to ask. I
only use FP 2002 - I have no other web building skills. Thanks, Paul

In a image/graphic application you can change the color. You can only change color on mouseover if
each room on the floor plan was a separate image.

Actually you can do this, but it's alot more work than just using separate
images.

You would use CSS to position background images.

Don't you mean foreground images that overlay the floor plan on mouseover?

No. The foreground image is a transparent GIF image to house the hotspot.
And the container has the non-highlighted image as a background. What you
will be doing is triggering a swap of the background image behind the
hotspot.

The background image has *all* the floor elements highlighted on it. By
swapping the background image behind the hotspot you are clipping away
everything except the highlighted area the corresponds to the dimension of
the hotspot, resulting in what appears to be a rollover.

It's not something that I would really use except in special cases - having
two large background images can be messy....

You Guys lost me at " In an image/graphic application". Is there something
practical that I can do, using only FP 2002, to achieve either of the Hot
Spot color effects I'd like? Thanks, Paul

BTW, is there an FP 2007 or something else from Microsoft that I should be
using, instead of my old FP 2002 (that blows up at predictable times under
Vista, forcing me to keep a XP Pro laptop for these needed functions?) That
is easy, like FP 2002, not making me become a programmer in some
"curly-brace language"?

OK, sound interesting...

So do I want SharePoint Designer? Will it do what FP does, plus more?
Color my Hot Spots? Or do I want a 4 year old FP 2003?

Will it actually work thi sway?

I had played with something similiar a year or so ago, but instead I had a
background gradient for the quiescant state and swapped over to a background
color on hover. Too many alignment issues-- maybe the pages are still on
line and I can post tomorrow
The other difference was that instead of a plain transparent gif, I did a
gif of an astandard font in blue and used a black background- the blue then
got indexed and made transparent.

Is this something I should be able to do, just using FP2002? The colors
below the doors do what I want. I did not see that in the door example you
provided. Thanks, Paul

Yes, it works. Alignment is definitely tricky, though.

Swapping and positioning backgrounds is a great way to accomplish your
button rollovers. For example -

http://66.165.96.233/page2.php

The opening doors are all on a single background image

http://66.165.96.233/images/doors-bkg.gif

and they are simply CSS positioned behind the associated link.

Or did I show you this before?
