Hi,

I know that this question has been asked before but I have not found a
solution to this problem. I downloaded the hotfix but I always get the
message "The upgrade patch cannot be installed...". I spent the entire
weekend de-installing and re-installing Office 2003 and my Proofing Tools
(both English editions), I have the most recent updates, Windows Installer
3.1. Is there anything I can do to obtain the newest files for the German
spellcheck in another way?

Thanks for any ideas.

Hi Ulricke,

Can you post the setup logs from
Start=>Run
%temp%
(both the setup(nnnnn).log file (most recent for the update) and from the \ohotfix folder in the same location?

Hi Bob,

I opened the temp folder but there are no ohotfix and setup log files (nor
are they in other folder on the system). How can that be?
When I update office, I usually do automatic updates or go the site and
click on check for recent updates. I think the ohotfix comes from an admin
installation, doesn't it?
I only have log files such as OU(00001)_Msi.log in this folder.

Any suggestion? Thank you.

Hi Ulrike,

As I understand it, the hotfixes do not add any language tools to Office 2003 it only updates an existing installation of Office
2003 German Language proofing tools already installed in either. There are two hotfix packages for two different base Office
version.

(a) The German edition of Microsoft Office 2003 that has the German language tools provided and installed

-or-

(b) The English language Office 2003 Multilingual Interface Pack edition (volume license only) that has had the German MUI pack
installed or, the retail Office 2003 Proofing Tools Kit (separate purchase from Office) installed.

If the German MUI pack is causing problems installing in (b) then this article may help.

Also, Office 2003 needs to have been updated to Office 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) level prior to applying the 'hotfix' in either
scenario.

In the download the hotfix installation instructions are in the file PTK_readme.txt If you're adding this to a deployed version of
MS Office the instructions there should be followed rather than the ones for a standalone retail copy (which scenario are you
following from those instructions and are you substituting the correct drive/folder locations on your computer for those in the
example?

If your installations meet the requirements, then what does the
