Hotmail account doesn't connect

My regular POP3 account works fine in Outlook 2003. Then I added a
Hotmail HTTP account, adding the correct name and password; HTTP Mail
Service Provider is 'Hotmail'; 'Log on using SPA' is unchecked. When I
do a Send/Receive, the 'Send' task is Completed, but I get this error on
Inbox Synchronizing Headers:

Task 'Hotmail: Folder: Inbox Synchronizing headers.' reported error
(0x80040111): 'An unknown error has occurred. Please save any existing
work and restart the program.'

It may be related to a bad installation of MSN I did the day before, but
I'm not sure. Any ideas?

Are you using a paid Hotmail account since those are the only ones that work
with Outlook now

Have you tried backing out the 'bad' MSN install or trying to reinstall it
to fix it? It may have touched something that Outlook needs.

Right, that's my assumption too. Unfortunately, I can't uninstall MSN.
When I go into Add/Remove Programs and click Change/Remove to uninstall
MSN, the display flickers for a second and then nothing happens. Scary.
It must have been a really badly botched installation.

I tried doing a System Restore but that took me back to a time that's
not really useful.

I've found article ID #302107
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;302107) in the
Microsoft Knowledgebase pertaining to Outlook which suggests a registry
modification. I'd do it right away but I notice the registry
instructions only pertain to Windows 2000 and earlier. Think I'd be ok
following those? Thanks much.
