Hotmail accounts in Outlook 2003

Clorey

I have a new computer and have just finished setting up Outlook 2003. I put
in the email addresses from my ISP and also Hotmail accounts (4) that I had
in Outlook Express. These Hotmail accounts I have had for at least five years
now. They are not working in Outlook. I get the same emails in 2 of the
accounts, 1 doesn't even download the emails and the other one works fine. I
keep getting error messages like name and password are incorrect, or needs
authorization etc. What is happening and can it be fixed or should I just
stop using Hotmail accounts?

Use OE or your browser instead for your Hotmail accts. Outlook cannot
retrieve free Hotmail accts.

Thank you Mary. I didn't realize this. This explains why the emails are
getting all messed up and going into the wrong accounts right? I may as well
use Outlook Express for my POP3 email also. Is this a good idea or not? What
good is having O.E. and Outlook, are there any benefits in using Outlook? Why
doesn't Outlook say that it doesn't work with free Hotmail accounts; I
shouldn't have been able to set them up in the first place. Do you agree?

Help and Thank you

Outlook Express doesn't work with free hotmail accounts either.

"Is this a good idea or not?"
Depends, if you are only using it as a mail client OE probably enough for
you. If you need a PIM and/or Exchange connectivity Microsoft Office Outlook
is the better choice.

"Why doesn't Outlook say that it doesn't work with free Hotmail accounts...

Nope, that is not up to Outlook but the mail server and that notifies you by
showing errors during send/receive.

I don't understand. I was using Outlook Express until last weekend and all my
free hotmail accounts were in there and I was getting emails for all of them
right up to date. When did OE stop sending and receiving hotmail emails? What
do I do now to open up a new email account other than the one I have with my
ISP? I ask, because some people I know cannot send emails to the account with
my ISP. I have been in touch with the provider and they say it isn't their
fault.
