Hotmail Folders in Outlook

D

DavidS

I use Outlook 2007 (with SP2) and want Outlook to hold the full content (on
my lap top) of selected folders from a new Hotmail account. I remember that
I have previously been able to select the Hotmail folders that would be
included in the Outlook 'send / receive' instruction. I can't find out where
I can set this up in Outlook and am not sure if this functionality has been
affected by the addition of SP2.

Can anyone help ?

Thanks

How are you connecting to hotmail? The only account type that lets you
select folders to subscribe to is IMAP, which hotmail doesn't support. The
outlook connector shows all the hotmail folders, POP3 is inbox only.

Diane, sorry but I'm a 'non-techie'. Looking at my hotmail email account
settings, it says the account type is currently 'MAPI' (is this the same as
'IMAP' ?). I'm not sure where exactly I was able to do it but I'm sure I was
able to 'tick' those Hotmail folders that I wanted to be included in the
'send / receive' instruction in Outlook.

Not at all.

The only place you could possibly have been able to check which folders to
sync would be in the Send/Receive group configuration. While viewing
Outlook's main window, press Alt-Ctrl-S. Select "All Accounts", click Change
and select the Hotmail account, if you see it. What's in the right-hand pane?

if I'm at the point you expect, the All Accounts Send / Receive Settings
only show my Hotmail Account and also the In-Box being ticked under the
'Personal Folders'. It's at this point that I'm sure I've seen all my
Hotmail folders with the opportunity to 'tick' those I want to Send /
Receive. This is what's puzzling me.

MAPI means you are using the outlook connector. You cant control the folders
it downloads. Send and receive settings affect only the inbox. (Ctrl+Alt+S)

I believe the old HTTP access allowed you to select the folders but its not
longer available for hotmail.

I think this is due to the Outlook Connector. I don't think the DeltaSync
protocol allows selective synching.

Diane / Brian thanks for the help. I suspected my issue may have arisen
about the time I installed a recent update to Outlook that included
Connector. (If I remember correctly, Microsoft recently issued a note saying
that Connector would eventually be a requirement for all Hotmail accounts).
Personally, the ability to update discrete folders was a useful feature and
ought to be included as a future update. Perhaps you could pass this onto
Microsoft thro' your contacts.

Thanks again.
