Hotmail not receiving Email's sent from Outlook if they contain a "insert>picture"

Every time I send an email from Outlook 2003 SP1 (office pro), and I
use HTML to compose the message. I want to add an image to a signature
on the email. I don't want to link the image to an external address
(ie. http://www.ddd.com/logo.gif) as Outlooks blocks these image
references on the email recipients side. Seeing that most the people we
send email to uses outlook, So I choose to use the "insert > picture >
from file" and place the image in.

Now the problems come, any other email address I send mail to such as,
Gmail, yahoo, various web based email clients, Notes, etc display the
email and generally the image if they allow html viewing. But the
problem comes with sending to Hotmail, the email doesn't show up at
all, not in the inbox and not in the junk email folder. It just doesn't
come. But if I delete the image, hotmail receives the email fine, if i
"insert > picture > from file" and send, never shows up in hotmail.

I've sent the same email with the inserted picture from 3 seperate
machines, all XP outlook 2003 with the same results. I've also sent the
email to two seperate hotmail accounts, and same thing, the email never
shows up anywhere.

But, if I compose the message in rich text format, the email shows up,
but with nothing but a winmail.dat file attached. No image.

Does anyone.. have ANY clue as to how to get around this? Or anyone
heard of it, I can't find anything on it and MS support hasn't replyed
back to me yet. This seems like a pretty major bug for outlook/hotmail.
Thanks!

Hi,

I am not sure about your problems, but this is what happened to me for my
MSN email account and Outlook 2003 SP2.

For over 2-3 years, my subscribed MSN newsletters can't display images in
Outlook while all other HTML messages including junk mails have no problems.

It only happened to MSN's newsletters - how ironic!

If I used any browser (including MSN Explorer) to open up the message, it is
fine.

I have talked to MSN technical support, tried various ways, posted questions
here, but all without any success.

In June of this year, without any reasons, MSN newsletters finally can
display image in Outlook. I don't know it's MSN fixed the problem or one of
the MS updates fixed it.

Another strange thing for Outlook which is similar to your situation (but no
answer from here) is sending our own HTML mail messages with external linked
(to our web site) image.

In this case, we use Word 2003 with mail merge function using customer
database as the data source.

The image can display correctly for testing but once it is actually sent
using mail merge, every single copy in sent items does not display images.

And the person in charge of doing this always include one copy for herself,
and her own copy in Outlook 2003 (added our domain to safe sender) also
won't display image. But again, using any browser to open the mail won't
have the problem, and when the problem just came out, we literally called
almost all of our customers to verify if they could view the image ok, they
had no problem.

So now after distributing newsletters, the person has to use browser to open
her own copy to verify if the newsletter can correctly display image.
