Hotmail sends mail via outlook connector but does not receive

I have downloaded outlook connector to my outlook software. When I click
"send and receive" outlook appears to attempt to send mail from my hotmail
account but does not appear to attempt to receive it and indeed does not
receive it. Do I need to adjust my settings in some way, and if so, how?
