Hour glass keeps flashing on and off while I type in MS word

All of a sudden, the hour glass (indicating the program
is thinking or saving) keeps flashing on every few
seconds while I type in Microsoft Word. This just
started happening. I have the most current McAfee Anti-
Virus software and it isn't picking up any viruses.
Anyone know how to stop this annoying activity?
