Hourly rate

Scott

I've just started to do some database work for some local businesses and I'm
trying to figure out what to charge / quote for jobs. Does any one have any
insight on how I should come up with a price for a job. Obviously someone
with an in-depth knowledge of Access could complete a job quicker and thus
charge an higher hourly rate then someone just starting out. I've been
working with Access for a few years and am probably somewhere near the
middle of the pack. What would a high / low hourly price range be? I don't
want to charge to high a price and get no jobs, but I also don't want to
sell myself short.

Where are you? In the US, in Austraila, in Austria, in China?

US rates probably run from $25 to $150 per hour, depending on experience.

Canada, so I would assume that rates would be similar to the US

Not necessarily, as rates even in the US vary from place to place; and, of
course, there is the consideration of exchange rate which may affect it.
You'd better hope to get some responses from Canadians.

My observations regarding US rates are consistent with John's, except rates
can go higher for specialists, particularly in "hot areas" large
metropolitan areas with high cost-of-lving as well as high wages or dealing
with international businesses/customers. But I have been approached by
recruiters who were dickering to get Access people for even less. In those
cases, back when I kept a list of people from my user group who were
available for work, I'd fax the list to the recruiter, but with the warning
that I didn't think anyone on my list would work for that little, so they'd
probably be wasting time and effort to make the calls.

I'd hate to have been the client of those recruiters when a $10 / hour
"Access developer" showed up for work.

there isn't an Access MDB developer any where in the world that is worth
more than $10/hour

Seriously

Access MDB is worthless, you're not even worth minimum wage

It never ceases to amaze me how little some people have to do.
