Hours instead of Days

Hello,

I'm probably exposing my ignorance of a whole bunch on things in here, but...

I've modified the My Assignments view in the My Tasks are of PWA to display
both Actual Work and Remaining Work fields. Currently they are both in days
however, and we prefer to work in hours.

There must be somewhere to change this, but I can't seem to find it. Can
anyone help?

Kind Regards,

Jonathan

Really? Wow - that surprises me considering you seem to be able to change it
almost everywhere else.

I wonder why MS made that decision - especially considering there is a huge
variation in what a working day may be in terms of length? In fact, in my
mind there is even ambiguity over what you mean by a working day - is it 8
hours (or whatever) worth of work, is it 6.4 hours worth of work for those
working at 80% on project time, etc?

Not really a question, just a comment.

Thanks for your help Ben.

Just to re-enforce my ignorance I'm going to ask where I would do that.

I assume it is in the Site Actions -> Site Settings?
I went there and reviewed the Site Columns option, but I didn't appear to be
able to change any fields to hours/days/etc.

Thanks,

Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,
I agree with your comments, but PWA is basically a V2 app and Project is a
V12 app, so there is lots of config in Project that is not available in PWA.
There are also a few bugs, such as PWA always insists that the day is 8 hours
long, even when the calendar is 7 hours.

Re what is a working day, that depends on what you are trying to measure and
the client!

Hi Ben,

I have managed to get the PWA to recognise the day as 7.5 hours rathe than 8.

In Server Settings, click on the Timesheet Settings and Defaults under the
Time and Task Management heading.
In there you can change the number of hours in a day and week.

A quick test would see to demonstate that while it says it refers to
Timesheets, it also follows through to tasks.
(my test was booking 7.5 hours to a task in the timesheet and then importing
that in My Tasks. It showed up as 1 day's worth of work)

Hope that is helpful.

Jonathan,

If you click Site Actions -> Edit Page on the My Tasks view, you can edit
the web part to shows hours rather than days.

JP,
Using PWA 2007, I am trying to change the duration and remaining work
columns to show hours instead of days, in order to match what is in the
project plan.

In My Tasks view, I clicked Site Actions -> Edit Page, then what do I do?

Your help is much appreciated.

On the My Tasks page in PWA, do the following:

1. Click Site Actions - Edit Page.
2. In the My Tasks web part, click the Edit pick list and select the Modify
Shared Web Part item on the list.
3. In the sidepane on the right side of the Web Part, expand the Project
Web Access section at the bottom of the pane.
4. Set the Work Format value to Hours.
5. Click the OK button.
6. Click the Exit Edit Mode button in the far upper right corner of the
page, directly below the Site Actions pick list.

Hope this helps.

Dale,
Thank you so much! I had gone into Modify Shared Web part earlier, but I
didn't scroll down far enough.

How do you change the Remaining Work column in My Timesheets to display in
hours instead of days?

Gail --

You can change it on the My Tasks page, but you cannot change it on the My
Timesheet page. GRRR!
